Press Releases : Raising ASEAN Awareness in Rajabhat University Network
The Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized an intensive training programme for Rajabhat University lecturers from all over Thailand during 19-20 August 2012 at the Furama Hotel, Pattaya. Over 130 executives and lecturers from Rajabhat University Network attended the programme “Getting Ready for the ASEAN Community”. The objectives were threefold: first, to provide an opportunity for university lecturers to deepen their knowledge and understanding about ASEAN; second, to provide university lecturers with information and insight, which can be used to develop the curriculum and teaching methods; and, thirdly, to work with university lecturers in promoting ASEAN awareness both within and beyond university walls.
During the programme, participants were able to learn in-depth information about ASEAN from knowledgeable speakers, such as the Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs. The speakers shared their knowledge on the history and driving forces of ASEAN’s evolution, as well as their knowledge on the three pillars of the ASEAN Community, namely, the ASEAN Political-Security Community, the ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. The senior officials shared their perspectives on the different pillars of the ASEAN Community, while also pointing out the linkages between these pillars, and the need to develop an integrated national strategy to realize the ASEAN Community.
