Press Release : The 9th Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar

                H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, is scheduled to visit Myanmar during 13 - 15 August 2018, at the invitation of H.E. U Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International Cooperation of Myanmar, to co-chair the 9th Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar (JC-9), which will be held in Nay Pyi Taw on 14 August 2018.
 
                The Joint Commission is the highest-level mechanism for bilateral consultations between Thailand and Myanmar. Attended by representatives from agencies concerned of both sides, the Meeting will not only seek to enhance the “Natural Strategic Partnership,” but also to prioritise and advance cooperation between the two countries in all dimensions. During the Meeting, the two sides will sign the Thailand – Myanmar Air Services Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Project on the Development of Shrimp Culture in Rakhine State.  Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand will officiate the hand-over of a new building and sports facilities to the Thailand – Myanmar Friendship School in Pyinmana on the outskirts of Nay Pyi Taw.
 
                At the conclusion of the meeting, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai and H.E. U Kyaw Tin will together attend a commemorative reception to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Thailand – Myanmar Diplomatic Relations in Nay Pyi Taw in the evening of 14 August 2018. H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar, will also be graciously present at the reception, in a reaffirmation of the close bonds of friendship between the two countries.
 
                Thailand is the first country with which the Myanmar Government under the current administration holds a Joint Commission meeting. As a close neighbouring country, Thailand is fully committed to fostering its friendly relations and “Natural Strategic Partnership” with Myanmar at all levels, based on mutual trust, respect and understanding.
