Social & Cultural News : Brisbane Thai Festival 2017

            On 3 September 2017, Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, and Mrs. Kanyaratana Punkrasin, spouse, attended the Brisbane Thai Festival 2017 at the Roma Street Parkland, Brisbane.  Ambassador kindly gave remarks at the opening ceremony.  The Brisbane Thai Festival is jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy, Royal Thai Honorary Consulate-General in Brisbane, and Thai-Australian Association of Queensland, which aims to promote Thai tourism and Thai foods as well as to bring Thailand and Australia closer together through appreciation of each other culture.  This year’s Festival marks the 5th time we bring Thailand to the heart of Brisbane.
              There were varieties of activities at the Festival namely Buddhist ceremony, Thai cooking show, and Muay Thai demonstration.  In addition, there are fourteen of best Thai restaurants across Queensland providing an array of favourite Thai foods and desserts for enjoyment. On an entertainment side, the Ministry of Culture of Thailand brought a group of talented dancers and musicians from the Department of Fine Arts to showcase Thai traditional dance and music as well as special performance “Khon” masked dance.  There were approximately 15,000 people participated in this year’s Festival.
               During the visit, Ambassador and his spouse also attended a dinner hosted by Mr. Andrew Park, Thai Honorary Consul-General in Brisbane, and representatives of Thai community in Queensland at Siam Sunset restaurant.
