The Distinguished Alumni Awards were given to alumni who have distinguished themselves professionally and brought honor to the university and the country.

    On Wednesday 28 June 2017, H.E. Mr. Surasak Suparat, the Thai Ambassador to Brazil and Team Thailand, together with the Brazilian local staffs, held a merit making by offering foods to Phra Ajahn Mudito, at the Ambassador’s Residence in Brasilia. Phra Ajahn Mudito is a Brazilian Buddhist monk who has been ordained and trained for 12 years at Nong Pah Pong Temple, the Thai Forst Traditional meditation temple.

    Transplant Athletes from Thailand competed in 21st World Transplant Games in Malaga during 25 June - 2 July 2017
    On 24 June 2017, Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Minister Counsellor, the representative of the Royal Thai Embassy in Spain, welcomed transplant athletes from Thailand led by Dr. Mason Poramathikul, Team Manager, participating in the 21st World Transplant Games in Malaga during 25 June - 2 July 2017. The World Transplant Game is hosted for the 1st time in Spain with an aim to raise awareness on the importance of organ donation. It is pleased to learn that on 26-27 June, the Thai team won 10 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 12 bronze medals from pétanque.

The ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests including Dr. Jane Philpott, MP, Minister of Health; Mr. Ahmed Hussen, MP, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship; Mr. Arnold Chan, MP; Mr. Geng Tan, MP; Hon. Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP and Ontario Minister of Community and Social Services, Hon. Michael Chan, MPP and Ontario Minister of International Trade, Senator Thanh Hai Ngo, and members of the diplomatic corps.

    Presentation Ceremony of Kyoto City’s Fire Engines to the City of Khon Kaen
    On Monday 26 June 2017, Mrs. Chanida Kamalanavin, Deputy Consul-General of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka, represented the Thai side in the presentation ceremony of two high quality used fire engines of Kyoto City for the City of Khon Kaen from Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa, Mayor of Kyoto City, at Kyoto City Hall. The ceremony was attended by about 35 guests including Mr. Yasuaki Nishimura, Chairman of the Rotary Club of Kyoto Northeast, and Mr. Somchai Chiaranaipanit, representative of the Rotary Club of Kaen Koon in Khon Kaen. The two Rotary Clubs will coordinate in transporting the two fire engines to Thailand to be presented to the City of Khon Kaen in the near future.

    Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal attended the Inauguration of Civil Scholarship Fund and IAESTE, Nepal
    On 14 June 2017, H.E. Bhakavat Tanskul, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal attended the Inauguration of Civil Scholarship and International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), Nepal, at Yak & Yeti Hotel, which was presided over by Honourable Mr. Gopal Man Shrestha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of Nepal. This event aimed to establish a long-term scholarship for Nepali students who were affected by the earthquake incident as well as officially launch the IAESTE project in Nepal. In his statement, Ambassador Tanskul commended the efforts made by Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in organizing a fundraising event among NRNA members and Thai people which led to the launching of the Civil Scholarship. Ambassador Tanskul also congratulated NRNA on the success in bringing the IAESTE project to Nepal which would attract students from various countries, including Thailand to do their internship in Nepal and provide technical assistance to local communities. The presence of Ambassador Tanskul at this event reaffirmed the excellent relations between the two countries as well as the continuity of assistance that Thailand has given to Nepal.

    On 7 June 2017, Ms. Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang, Consul-General of Thailand to Vancouver met with Ms. Ramona Soares, Assistant Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education, International Education, Independent Schools and Partner Relations Branch and Mr. Alan Schroeder, Director of Global Advancement, International Education & Independent Schools Division, to discuss further collaboration in education between British Columbia (BC) and Thailand. On this occasion, Ms. Soares expressed the wish to further promote the exchange of students, expand the educational cooperation between BC and Thailand, and explore the possibility of establishing another MoU on education between the two sides.
