    Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs presided over the signing of Memorandum of Understandings on private sector investments in the Sudan
    On 27 April 2018, Mr. Jesda Katavetin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs and Mr. El - Obeid Mohammed Al - Obeid Rahma, Director-General of Arab and Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan attended the signing ceremony of four Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) on investment in the agriculture and aquaculture sector and fish market in the Red Sea State. The MoU was signed between the Thai and Sudanese private sectors at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan.

    On 25 April 2018, Mr. Jesda Katavetin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs co-chaired the 3rd Thailand - Sudan Joint Working Group (JWG) with Mr. El - Obeid Mohammed Al - Obeid Rahma, Director-General of Arab and Asian Affairs and the head of the Sudanese side, in Khartoum, Republic of Sudan.

    On Sunday 29 April 2018, Consul-General Munin Paniswasdi attended the opening ceremony of the 27th Annual Exhibition of Ikebana International Osaka Chapter at the Osaka International House where members of the Chapter exhibited the Japanese-style flower arrangements. In this occasion, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka participated in the Annual Exhibition by exhibiting the unique art form of Thai-style fruit carving which was highly praised by the event attendees.

    Songkran Festival 2018 at Wat Thai Buddharam
    On Sunday 22 April 2018, Mrs. Nantana Sivakua, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, together with Mr. Andrew Park, Honourary Consul-General of Thailand to Queensland and Mr. Pawat Ruangvichatron, Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy attended the Songkran Festival 2018 at Wat Thai Buddharam in Brisbane (Logan). This particular Thai temple is the largest Thai Buddhist temple in Queensland and serves as the religious and spiritual centre for the strong 10,000 plus Thai community members in Brisbane and nearby towns and cities. It has been on the current site since 1995 and has organised the Songkran Festival since its establishment with the objective to showcasing and conserving this important tradition that is arguably the most important event for the Thai people. This year, the temple was blessed to have a number of local politicians and high-level civil servants attending the ceremony such as the Hon. Leanne Enoch, Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, the Hon. John Paul Langbroek MP, Shadow Minister for Sport and Racing and Multicultural Affairs and Mr. Ian Stewart, Queensland Police Commissioner, just to name a few. There were approximately 8,000 people attending this year’s Festival.

    On Saturday 21 April 2018 between 12.00 – 18.00 hrs. at the Residence of the Thai Ambassador in Buenos Aires, the Royal Thai Embassy together with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Embassy of Malaysia, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Embassy of the Philippines hosted the ASEAN Bazaar promoting ASEAN culture and culinary in order to increase awareness of ASEAN to the Argentine public, as well as create unity among the ASEAN communities in Argentina.

    Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, and the Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan with residence in Cairo paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the International University of Africa (IUA) in Khartoum, Republic of Sudan
    On 24 April 2018, Mr. Jesda Katavetin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Mr. Chainarong Keratiyutwong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Sudan with residence in Cairo, and delegation, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kamal Obeid, Vice Chancellor of the International University of Africa (IUA) in Khartoum, during the delegation’s visit to Sudan to join the 3rd Thai - Sudan Joint Working Group (JWG). Both sides discussed ways and means to broaden cooperation between the University and the Thai private sector. Furthermore, Mr. Jesda Katavetin expressed his appreciation to the University for consistently providing scholarship awards to Thai students every year. The IUA is home to more than 300 Thai students, and allocates over 100 scholarships to Thai nationals annually.

    On 10th April 2018, H.E. Dusit Manapan, Ambassador of Thailand to Kuwait, attended the 9th opening ceremony of Kuwait International Prize for Recitation and Memorizing the Holy Quran at Crowne Plaza Hotel. H.H. Sheikh Jabber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait attended the ceremony, together with Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. This year, two Thai Quran readers participated in the event, Mr. Nawawee Arawan and Mr. Muhammadfikri Sama. Thailand came 7th on the recitation of the Holy Quran.

    On 8th April 2018, Dean and Vice Dean of Fatoni University paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dusit Manapan, Ambassador of Thailand to Kuwait, before their attending of the Kuwait International Prize for Memorizing the Holy Quran and its reading and recitation of the Quran in Kuwait. The Dean discussed with the Ambassador on the Kuwaiti government’s support for the university as well as scholarships for the Thai-Muslim students to study in Kuwait.
