    Coming soon: The 2nd edition of Thai Festival in Kolkata
    Following the huge success of the very first Thai Festival in Kolkata in 2016, its grandiose 2nd edition is in the pipeline. Ms. Venus Asawapoom, Acting Consul General of Thailand in Kolkata and Mr. Kris Theerarak, General Manager @thaiairways International in Kolkata discussed today (29 January 2018) their collaboration, together with Tourism Authority of Thailand (@TAT.newdelhi) on the Thai Festival which is expected to be held in May 2018 and the participation in Travel & Tourism Fair between 6-8 July 2018.

    Ambassador of Thailand to Poland meet with President of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency
    On 19 January 2018, H.E. Mrs. Sansanee Sahussarungsi, Ambassador of Thailand to Poland had a meeting with Mr. Tomasz Pisula, President of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH). They discussed and exchanged views on the economic potentials and characteristics that Thailand and Poland share in common, that is capabilities and strength in agricultural and food industry and strategic location of the two countries as a gateway to their respective regions. Besides, their discussion focused on the current economic policies which welcomed and supported the effort to intensify bilateral cooperation in trade and investment for concrete benefits to the private sectors of the two countries.

    On 28 January 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili in cooperation with the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, the Embassy of Malaysia, the Embassy of the Philippines, the Embassy of the Republic of South Korea in Timor-Leste and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste held an “ASEAN Fashion Show and Photo Exhibition” in Timor Plaza, Dili. The first of its kind, the event showcased national and designer dresses of ASEAN member countries, Timor-Leste and South Korea on a catwalk. Thailand models donned the elegant Chut Thai Chakkri (lady) and Suea Phraratchathan with Jong Kraben (gentlemen).

    On 21 January 2017, H.E. Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal presided over the opening ceremony of Thai Martial Art Knockout Championship Game 2018 organized by Nepal-Thai Boxing Association (NTBA) with an aim of promoting Muay Thai in Nepal and to select Muay Thai boxers for the 3rd International Thai Martial Arts and Festival to be held at Nimibutr Sport Building, National Stadium, Bangkok during 12 -22 March 2018. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Tanskul congratulated NTBA on the success of the event which helps to strengthen the Muay Thai learning among young generation across Nepal. He also highlighted the Embassy’s willingness to continue working closely with NTBA to widely promote this famous Thai marital art. The presence of Ambassador Tanskul at NTBA’s event helps to increase the popularity of Muay Thai among Nepali youth which is another key to strengthen the people-to-people contacts and create a close cultural diplomacy between Thailand and Nepal.

    On 18 January 2018, H.E. Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal and the Embassy’s officials welcomed 61 newly ordained monks and delegation at the Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini, on the occasion of a group ordination dedicated to the 60th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn on 4 July 2017. Among the newly ordained monks were H.E. Mr. Thakur Phanit, Vice President for International Affairs, Chulabhorn Research Institute and Former Ambassador, and H.E. Mr. Chalermpol Thanchitt, Vice President for International Affairs, Chulabhorn Research Institute and Former Ambassador. Leading the Thai delegates were Mrs. Sopha Phanit, Deputy Director, Office of the President, and H.E.     Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal presented donation from Thai people to Abbot of the Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini to support a building construction of Metta Gurukul School
    On 19 January 2017, H.E. Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal presented a donation amount of 850,000 NPR (or 283,333 THB) from Thai people to Phra Sribodhivides, Abbot of the Royal Thai Monastery in Lumbini to support a building construction of Metta Gurukul School, to which the Embassy and the Monastery has been providing assistances since 2012. Established in 2003 by the Lumbini Social Service Foundation, the Metta Gurukul School began as an idea developed by a group of local youth interested in learning Buddhism, practicing meditation as well as performing social work activities, which finally led to the founding of a primary school. At present, the Metta Gurukul School provides affordable education from primary school to secondary school levels to 750 Nepali children living in Lumbini and nearby villages. Therefore, the presentation of donation to support the Metta Gurukul School is another crucial mission for the Embassy to assist Nepal in education development and promote the increasing cooperation in Buddhism between Thailand and Nepal.

    On 15 January 2017, H.E. Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal attended the campaign for establishing One Thousand Buddha at the International Monastic Buddhist College (IMBC), which aimed to raise financial support for the construction of a new International Monks’ Residential Building, dedicated to the Most Venerable Somdej Phra Maha Rajjamangalacarya, Abbot of Paknam Bhasicharoen Temple. Venerable Dr. Bhikku Praghyalok Maha Thera, Founder President of IMBC presided over the opening ceremony at which Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal and more than 100 people were also present. Ambassador Tanskul congratulated the IMBC for initiating the campaign on the occasion of the 61st birthday anniversary of Venerable Praghyalok and reaffirmed the Embassy’s willingness to continue working with IMBC to promote education for monks and novices in Nepal as well as other dimensions in Buddhist cooperation. The presence of Ambassador Tanskul at this event helped to reinforce the people-to-people contact and enhance future collaboration in Buddhism between Thailand and Nepal.
