An example of Chaipattana Foundation funding at work was an aerator invented by His Majesty. It is described as a "buoy-type, low-speed air jet aerator to add oxygen to stagnant ponds and waterways." It resembles a paddlewheel on pontoons that lifts water into the air, and infuses it with oxygen. Neat, simple, efficient.
It serves as a practical, low-cost means to aerate polluted waterways and thereby ensure a livable habitat for its fish. Experimental machines now operate in Bangkok's Dusit Zoo, Phra Mongkutklao Hospital, Wat Bovornives, Wat Benchamabophit (Marble Temple), and within the grounds of Chitralada Villa, Dusit Palace. Others have been installed in several upcountry locations.
In 1993, His Majesty applied for and was granted a Thai patent for his invention. |
