Thai Foreign Minister and Executive Secretary of the ESCAP discuss joint activities on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of ESCAP

On 25 October, 2006, Mr. Kim Hak-Su, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Nitya Pibulsonggram, Foreign Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Mr. Hak-Su informed that Kazakhstan offered to host the 63rd Annual ESCAP Session in May 2007 and asked for cooperation from Thailand to host special activities to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of ESCAP on 28 March, 2007.  He reiterated that it would be an honour of ESCAP if H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn could preside over the opening ceremony. 


Foreign Minister expressed his willingness to cooperate with ESCAP in organizing activities, such as panel discussion.  The Thai side would be more than honoured to convey the said invitation to the Office of His Majesty?s Principle Private Secretary.


On this occasion, Foreign Minister emphasized that Thailand is committed to adhere to its obligations with the UN, especially with  ESCAP, and agreed that the Prime Minister should preside over the Annual ESCAP Session in Thailand on a regular basis if he is not  engaged in other official functions.
