Deputy Foreign Minister talked with Sec-Gen of League of Arab States, met Thai students in Cairo and launched Football Clinic: Binding Thai Hearts Across Continents

On 17 April 2007, during the visit to Egypt and Sudan, Mr. Sawanit Kongsiri, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Amre Moussa, Secretary-General of League of Arab States, to exchange views on the current situations in the Middle East including the conflict between Israel and Palestine, situation in Iraq, nuclear programme in Iran and problems in Somalia.


Mr. Sawanit reiterated that the problems in the Middle East have far reaching impacts through out the world, including Thailand.  Thailand has commended the Secretary General of League of Arab States and the organization in pursuing peaceful solution to the problems by proposing the Arab Peace Initiative which Thailand is willing to coordinate with other ASEAN members in order to bring unity to the Muslim world.   


In this occasion, Mr. Sawanit visited a remote learning center in Cairo and met with Thai students. During this time, a team of Thai doctors and nurses from Thailand who accompanied Mr Sawanit on his trip to Egypt and Sudan provided health check for Thai students there.


Later that evening, Mr. Sawanit attended the opening ceremony of the Project Football Clinic : Binding Thai Hearts across Continents and kicked off friendly football matches between Thai National Youth Team (under 17 years old) and a team of Thai students in Cairo. 


This project was initiated by the Royal Embassy in Cairo in order to build unity among Thai students in Cairo and closer relation between Thai students and the Embassy.  Moreover, this event encourages the Thai students in Egypt to organize and work as a team to represent Thailand in playing football against the other ASEAN teams in Cairo.
