On 13 April 2008, the Royal Thai Embassy in Tehran hosted a reception at the Ambassador’s Residence at the Thai New Year (Songkran) Day for a selected group of opinion leaders, prominent diplomats and friends of Thailand in Iran. The reception was well attended by more than 90 guests, including ambassadors and/or their spouses, members of the Thai community in Iran, former Iranian ambassadors to Thailand, other Iranian government officials, and business persons.

The reception, which was part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand’s public diplomacy, provided an opportunity to introduce Thailand and its rich culture to those who were not familiar with Thailand, to renew or strengthen the bond of friendship between the invites and Thailand to build up networking among old and new friends of Thailand. The guests were welcomed by Thai lei and scented water before viewing a fruit and vegetable carving demonstration along a corridor that led to a reception area.
Everyone enjoyed authentic Thai food, herbal drinks and desserts. The guests also took part in a lucky draw contest where 15 winners taking home Thai OTOP products as special gifts. To spark the guests’ interest in Thailand, a documentary about Thailand’s culture and famous tourist destinations was shown at the reception and brochures on Major Thai Festivals and Events 2008 were presented to foreign guests leaving the reception.
