On 24 September 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand met with Mr. Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to discuss ways to strengthen cooperative endeavour on humanitarian assistance, especially those relating to public health and COVID-19 and displaced persons. The ICRC President thanked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for Thailand’s crucial role on regional and global humanitarian efforts for over three decades. Recently, Thailand has committed to provide financial contributions of around 78,000 USD to the ICRC to enhance COVID-19 prevention in Myanmar.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the ICRC President also discussed evolving situation in Afghanistan for which the ICRC President commended Thailand’s pledge to donate 150,000 USD to the Flash Appeal for immediate humanitarian need in Afghanistan.
 
The ICRC Regional Delegation in Bangkok carries out a wide range of humanitarian activities in Southeast Asia and Mekong sub-region. Thailand and the ICRC have enjoyed a longstanding cooperation on humanitarian protection and assistance since 1975.
