Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, presided over the official handing-over ceremony of alcohol sprays and face masks to the Thailand Mine Action Center in spoort of the Mine Risk Education operations in accordance with the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention or the Ottawa Treaty.

On 12 October 2021, Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, presided over the official handing-over ceremony of alcohol sprays and face masks to Lt. Gen. Kanit Chomanan, Director General of Thailand Mine Action Center (TMAC), Royal Thai Armed Forces, in support of the TMAC’s MRE operations.

The support of alcohol sprays and masks will help reduce the risk of officials from Covid-19 infection when carrying out the MRE operations during the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The MRE operation is part of Thailand’s obligations under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, which will contribute to reducing the number of new cases of mine-related accidents, especially along the border areas.

Thailand ratified the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention on 27 November 1998. The Convention entered into force for Thailand on 1 May 1999. Thailand has completed the destruction of all stockpiled anti-personnel mines, and has cleared and released more than 95 per cent of the mine contaminated areas. In 2021, Thailand is the Chair of the Committee of Victim Assistance under the framework of the Convention.
