On 27 May 2023, H.E. Ms. Rommanee Kananurak, Ambassador of Thailand to Italy attended the press conference of the exhibition celebrating the centenary of the opening of Berzieri Terme Building in Salsomaggiore Terme during 27 May – 17 September 2023 and 150 years after the birth of Galileo Chini, the Italian artist and painter who painted the magnificent decorations of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall in Bangkok, Thailand.

Galileo Chini embarked on a journey to Thailand (or Siam at that time) in 1911 and later entered into the service under the Siamese government. His magnificent paintings were reflected in the artwork of frescos at Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall in Bangkok where the history of the six reigns of Chakri Dynasty were majestically depicted. His study for the making of the new Throne Hall is a great example of modern Siam as an independent territory during the colonialist era and reflects the essential role the Italian nationals had played in Siam’s progress to modernity. After Chini came back from Siam, his oriental influences were implemented in Berzieri Terme Building and still remain in Italy today.

Also present at the press conference was Associate Professor Dr. Neungreudee Lohapon, Head of the Arc of Memory Research Unit, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University who has written an article for the exhibition catalogue.
