ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT 
ON THE BOMBING AT THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL IN JOLO, SULU, THE PHILIPPINES

1. ASEAN condemns the bombing at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Jolo, Sulu, the Philippines, on 27th January 2019, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives and caused injury to many. ASEAN extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims, and wishes the injured a quick recovery.

2. ASEAN fully supports the efforts of the Government of the Philippines in addressing the situation and bringing the perpetrators to justice. ASEAN stands in solidarity with the Government and people of the Philippines in this difficult time. ASEAN also reiterates its strong commitment to working closely with the international community in the fight against terrorism, extremism and radicalism.
