H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The two Ministers discussed the current COVID-19 situation in Thailand and Japan which have positive developments. They exchanged views on the concept of establishing a special framwork for the departure and entry of special groups of travelers, primarily for business purposes between the two countries, the details of which would be further deliberated at the working level.
On 18 June 2020 at 10.30 - 10.50 hrs. (GMT+7), H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The two Ministers discussed the current COVID-19 situation in Thailand and Japan and welcomed the positive developments of the situation in both countries. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining the momentum in the bilateral relationship and recognized the benefits of commencing consultations regarding measures to facilitate essential travels between nationals from both countries.
The two Ministers also shared the view that while the prevention and control of the infection is of highest priority, economic recovery in the current and post-COVID-19 situation is also of importance. In this regard, both sides exchanged views on the concept of establishing a special framework for the departure and entry of specific groups of travelers, primarily for business purposes, between the two countries, the details of which would be further deliberated at the working level, including relevant agencies of respective sides. Specific measures and procedures will be coordinated and informed through diplomatic channels of both sides.
On regional issues, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand emphasized the important role of Japan, as a key player in the region, in contributing to stability and prosperity as well as to the economic recovery of the region in the post-COVID-19 period. Both Ministers also exchanged views on Mekong - Japan cooperation.
