Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand reaffirmed close ties and strategic cooperation between Thailand and Bahrain at the Second Thai-Bahrain Mid-Year Review

Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand co-chaired the Second Thai-Bahrain Mid-Year Review, where both sides reaffirmed close bilateral relations and support in international fora between Thailand and Bahrain. The two sides also expressed satisfaction with progress on cooperation in several strategic areas.

On 2 August 2021, His Excellency Mr. Dusit Manapan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bahrain, co-chaired the Second Thai-Bahrain Mid-year Review in Manama.

Both sides reaffirmed the close ties between Thailand and Bahrain at all levels and support for each other both bilaterally and multilaterally. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the strategic areas of cooperation, namely, health and medical services, trade and investment and food security, particularly the Visiting Doctor Programme and the opening of the Thai Mart in Bahrain in early 2021. They also agreed to promote cooperation on renewable energy and on halal to deliver tangible results as well as on education through the accreditation of Thai universities in Bahrain.

Moreover, both sides discussed regional cooperation in the frameworks of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), ASEAN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). They also exchanged views on regional developments and the COVID-19 situation.

After the meeting, the Deputy Permanent Secreatary paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain.

The Mid-Year Review was initiated at the Third Meeting of the High Joint Commission (HJC) for Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Bahrain in February 2018. It is tasked to follow up the HJC's deliberations and decisions. Thailand hosted the First Mid-Year Review in August 2018.
