During her official visit to Mongolia between 27 and 29 April 2013, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra led a delegation of top business leaders to strengthen the Thailand – Mongolia business partnership.
The business delegation comprised 29 individuals from business organizations and associations, as well as private enterprises. They represented 6 major business sectors, namely: food and agriculture, mining and energy, automotive parts, education, finance and banking, and medical tourism sectors.
On 28 April 2013, Prime Minister Yingluck and her Mongolian counterpart presided over the signing of 3 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), including the MoU between the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) and the Thai Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking. Concurrently, the business delegates were given a presentation by representatives from MNCCI and the Ministry of Economic Development of Mongolia. Mr. Voravudhi Linananda, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr. Akaraphong Dayananda, Head of Strategy and Business Development of Banpu Public Company Limited, also shared their experience in doing business in Mongolia.
The Thai business delegation also attended a luncheon with Mongolian businessmen and officials. The event also served as an opportunity for business matching and networking activities.
Later in the evening, Prime Minister Yingluck met with the Thai business delegation, representatives from the Royal Thai Government and officials of the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing to discuss ways to enhance economic relations between the two countries.
During the visit, the Thai business delegation also had meetings with its Mongolian counterparts from major companies. The business delegates from the food and agricultural sector conducted a market survey at Nomin Supermarket, Mongolia’s first official shopping mall, located inside the State Department Store. Meanwhile, representatives from the mining and energy sector exchanged views on renewable energy management and innovation with representatives from Clean Energy sector. The education sector had the opportunity to meet and network with the President of the National University of Mongolia to enhance co-operation. The Thai side agreed to support research in vocational education, as well as double-degree programmes for Mongolian scholars. Representatives from the medical tourism sector also had a meeting with executives of Achtan Hospital and Gurvan Gal Hospital, leading private hospitals in Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolian side showed interest in sending high-profile patients for medical treatment in Thailand. Most importantly, the meetings with the Mongolian Ministers led by the concerned Thai Ministers were aimed at providing their Mongolian governmental sectors with a better understanding of investment opportunities and co-operation between the two countries.
The visit successfully concluded with the signing of 2 MoUs between Banpu Public Company Limited and 2 leading companies supported by the Ministry of Industry of Mongolia; the Energy Center of Mongolia and Shainshandin Aj Uildverlin Park of Mongolia, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Industry, and the Minister of Science and Technology as witnesses.
