7th Meeting of the Thailand-India Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation 29 June 2015

H.E. Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs of India will pay the first official visit to Thailand as Minister of External Affairs of India.  Mrs. Swaraj will co-chair the Seventh Meeting of the Thailand-India Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation and attend the World Sanskrit Conference, which will be presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.  During that auspicious occasion, Mrs. Swaraj will be granted an audience with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The JC Ministerial level meeting will be held on 29 June 2015 and co-chaired by H.E.  Senior Official level on 26 June 2015, co-chaired by General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Minister of External Affairs of India. The said meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the Senior Official between the two sides on 26 June 2015, which is co-chaired by Mr. Vitavas Srivihok, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Mr. Anil Wadhwa, Secretary (East) of Ministry of External Affairs of India.                                                                                                                            

This meeting will be the floor for Thailand and India to discuss various bilateral issues, especially in the area of economy and security. In terms of economic cooperation, both sides will discuss on means and ways to expedite the negotiation on the bilateral FTA, Connectivity, in particular, the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Transport Linkage and the support of the development of the Comprehensive Development in the Dawei Special Economic Zone and its related project areas in Myanmar. In addition, the cooperation in the areas of defence and security, tourism, culture, education, science and technology will also be discussed, as well as regional and multilateral cooperations. 

Upon the closure of the meeting, a number of agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of External Affairs of India, including MoU of the Establishment of Nalanda University, and the Exchange of an Instrument of Ratification of the Extradition Treaty, among others. Moreover, MoU between Rangsit University and Ministry of AYUSH on the Establishment of the “Academic Chair” will also be signed.
