On 26 January 2017, H.E. Mr. Enver Hoxhaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, met with H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. During the meeting, both sides expressed interest in promoting visits at all levels to enhance relations, including people-to-people contacts. It was determined that an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders be concluded first, which will pave the way for an agreement on visa exemption for ordinary passport holders in the future.
Kosovo is seen as a potential market for Halal products from Thailand due to its Muslim-majority population and its strategic location on the Balkan Peninsula. The Thai side expressed its readiness to provide assistance and cooperation in Kosovo’s economic development through the application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and the granting of training scholarships in the fields of agriculture and public health.
Thailand has agreed in principle to an inauguration of an Embassy of Kosovo in Thailand, which would be the first Embassy of Kosovo in Southeast Asia. Kosovo also sees Thailand as a strategic country to strengthen Kosovo’s relations with other countries in the region. The Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs also hosted a Luncheon in honour of the Kosovar Foreign Minister and his delegation.
The Kosavar Foreign Minister’s visited Thailand as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 25 – 27 January 2017. On 27 January 2017, the Kosavar Foreign Minister met with Professor Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, President of the National Legislative Assembly, and Dr. Jingjai Hanchanlash, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand, to discuss Inter-Parliamentary cooperation and opportunities in trade and investment through the establishment of the Joint Economic Forum respectively. Thailand and Kosovo established diplomatic relations on 22 November 2013.
