On 20 September 2017, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, held a bilateral meeting with the Right Honourable Boris Johnson, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom at the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72).

The UK Foreign Secretary convinced that Thai-UK relations will be normalized in the near future and highlighted Thailand as a significant investment destination for UK companies.  He also expressed his willingness to work on enhancing cooperation between Thailand and the EU.  In reply, the Thai Foreign Minister invited the Foreign Secretary to visit Thailand which enjoys peace and stability under the current Government, a fact supported by a number of over 32 million tourists visiting Thailand in 2016.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Rakhine state and illegal wildlife trafficking.  On the latter issue, the Thai Foreign Minister reassured that Thailand has made great strides in combatting illegal ivory trade following the government’s firm determination to tackle this issue seriously and comprehensively. In this regard, the UK Foreign Secretary invited Thailand to send a delegation to attend the London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade in 2018.
