Following the severe floods and landslides caused by torrential rainfall in Western Japan since 5 July 2018 resulting in many casualties and losses in Hiroshima, Ehime, Kagoshima, Okayama, Hyogo, Kyoto, Shiga, Fukuoka, Kochi, and Yamaguchi, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, sent a message of condolences to H.E. Mr.  Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, sent a message of condolences to H.E. Mr. Tarō Kōno, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, as follows:
 
 
1. Message of Condolences from H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, to H.E. Mr. Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan
 
Excellency,
 
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and people of Thailand, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Japan on the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the severe floods and landslides as a result of the torrential rainfall in Western Japan. My thoughts and prayers are with the relatives of the victims and to all those affected by this tragic disaster.
 
It is my fervent hope that the situation will improve shortly. Given the resilience of Japan and her people, I am confident that the affected areas will make a quick recovery and return to normalcy. As always, Thailand stands ready to offer any assistance you may need during these difficult times.

2. Message of Condolences from H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, to H.E. Mr. Tarō Kōno, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan
 
Excellency,
     
I have learned with profound sadness of the severe floods and landslides caused by the torrential rainfall in Western Japan since 5 July 2018, which have caused many loss of lives, injuries and widespread destruction. 
 
I join my Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, in extending deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims and those affected by this disaster. I pray for a successful search and rescue operation and evacuation of the people from the affected areas, as well as for a quick recovery of the situation. During these difficult times, Thailand stands by our friends and ready to render support, if needed.
