          Following the earthquakes in Hokkaido, Japan, on 6 September 2018 resulting in many casualties and damage to property, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, sent a message of condolences to H.E. Mr.  Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, sent a message of condolences to H.E. Mr. Tarō Kōno, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, as follows:

1. Message of Condolences from H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, to H.E. Mr. Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan

Excellency,

          I have learned once again with profound sadness of the immense destruction caused by the powerful earthquake that struck Northern Japan in the morning of 6 September 2018.

          On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, I offer our sincere prayers for those who lost their lives, and extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to those affected by this tragedy. Thailand shares your sorrow and stands ready to provide assistance to alleviate the terrible impacts of the disaster.

          Accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration.

2. Message of Condolences from H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, to H.E. Mr. Tarō Kōno, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

Excellency,

           I am deeply saddened to learn of the powerful earthquake that struck Hokkaido Prefecture in the morning of 6 September 2018, causing widespread damages to properties and facilities, and numerous injuries and loss of lives.

          At this sorrowful moment, I wish to express my deepest sympathies, once again, to the bereaved families of those affected, and offer any assistance Japan may need to rebuild, recover, and cope with the aftermath of this incident.  I sincerely believe that, with her profound resilience and solidarity, Japan will be able to speedily overcome this tragic incident.
