On 1 July 2025, Mrs. Pawaree Xuto Chaipatiyut, Deputy Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, along with Dr. Chakrarat Pittayawonganon, Acting Director of the Global Health Division, Ministry of Public Health, attended the Trilateral Meeting of Host Countries of the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED) held during the 19th Senior Officials’ Meeting on Health Development (19th SOMHD) in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. DDG Pawaree urged the Meeting to expedite the conclusion of the ACPHEED Establishment Agreement so that the signing ceremony can take place at the 47th ASEAN Summit later in October this year.

Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, ASEAN Leaders agreed at the 37th ASEAN Summit in November of the same year to establish the ACPHEED. In 2022, the 15th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting reached an agreement for Thailand to host the ACPHEED for Response and the ACPHEED Secretariat, Indonesia to host the ACPHEED for Detection, and Viet Nam to host the ACPHEED for Prevention. Once established, the ACPHEED will help strengthen the regional health architecture, security, and resilience.
