On 30 April 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, had discussion with H.E. Mrs. Magdalini Nicolaou, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Thailand.

Both sides discussed the convening of the first Thailand - Greece Bilateral Consultations. The Greek side expressed its readiness to host the meeting in Athens towards the end of 2026 or early 2027, while the Thai side reaffirmed its readiness to participate during the proposed period. They also explored potential agenda items for the consultations.

Both sides exchanged views on areas of mutual interest to further strengthen bilateral relations, including cooperation in tourism and culture, the potential resumption of direct Bangkok - Athens flights, negotiations on the Agreement between Thailand and the Hellenic Republic on visa exemption for holders of official/service or special passports, as well as maritime security and freedom of navigation.
