Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs meets with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Thailand

On 6 March 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Acting Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Ms. Julide Kayıhan, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Thailand, to follow up on the outcomes of the 6th Thailand - Türkiye Political Consultations held in Ankara in August 2025 and discuss ways to promote cooperation in preparation for elevating Thailand - Türkiye relations to a Strategic Partnership by 2028.
 
Both sides agreed to further promote bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Türkiye in various areas, including the exchange of high-level visits, security and defence cooperation, and economic cooperation. They underscored the importance of utilising the Joint Trade Committee (JTC), promoting Turkish investment in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), enhancing cooperation in agriculture and renewable energy, as well as exploring potential cooperation along the Middle Corridor connecting Asia and Europe.
 
Both sides also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East. The Acting Director-General expressed sincere appreciation to the Turkish side for providing consular assistance and facilitating the evacuation of Thai nationals from Iran via land border crossings between Türkiye and Iran.
