Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with ECOSOC President and Vice-President

On 17 July 2026, H.E. Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the President and Vice-President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on the sidelines of the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2026), held during 13 - 16 July 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. During the meetings, the Advisor sought support for Thailand’s candidature to ECOSOC for the 2029–2031 term and exchanged views on key issues under the ECOSOC agenda.

The Advisor met with H.E. Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in New York and current President of ECOSOC. The Advisor commended Nepal’s leadership as ECOSOC President, particularly in advancing the agenda of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), financing for development, and climate resilience. They also discussed ways to strengthen ECOSOC’s coordinating role across the United Nations development system and support more tangible progress in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The two sides further exchanged views on supporting each other on other related agenda items.

The Advisor also met with H.E. Mr. Amar Bendjama, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations in New York, Vice-President of ECOSOC and incoming President of ECOSOC for the term from 31 July 2026 to 31 July 2027. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Mr. Lounes Magramane, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria. On this occasion, the Advisor expressed Thailand’s readiness to support Algeria’s role as the next President of ECOSOC and reaffirmed the importance of working together to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
