On 5 January 2026, Ms. Wanalee Lohpechra, Acting Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, presented a flower vase from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to H.E. Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Thailand, and signed as a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the book of condolences on the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok.
Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest. The Acting Director-General welcomed the co-sponsoring of the 2025 Bangkok Joint Statement by the Global Partnership against Online Scams by Bangladesh. They agreed on the importance of a collective global response to address the issue, particularly efforts to track down those behind the criminal networks which are among the root causes of the issue. Both sides exchanged views on the upcoming general elections in their respective countries, scheduled to take place in early February 2026. They also discussed ways to further strengthen Thailand - Bangladesh bilateral relations, including the convening of the 4th Bilateral Consultations between the two countries.
