On 27 May 2026, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, chaired a brainstorming session on approaches to enhancing and integrating cooperation between Thailand and Latin America. Representatives from relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Culture, as well as the Royal Thai Police exchanged information and current status of cooperation with Latin American countries and explored ways to strengthen inter-agency coordination in advancing the relations in a more effective and tangible manner.
Participants agreed on the importance of promoting closer cooperation with Latin America, given the region’s high economic potential, abundant natural resources, and cultural openness. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to work through an integrated approach under the “Team Thailand” framework to drive the overall cooperation toward concrete achievements. Over the past year, the Ministry held Political Consultations with Argentina, Cuba, Mexico and Brazil, and in 2026, meetings are planned with Guatemala, Peru, Chile and Panama.
