On 11 September 2023, H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with Ms. Renata Bley, External Affairs Director of Braskem S.A. (Brazil), along with two other Braskem representatives, to discuss a joint venture plan between Braskem S.A. and SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited (SCGC). The Thai and Brazilian companies plan to establish a joint venture company that produces bio-ethylene from bio-ethanol for bio-polyethylene production in Thailand. Additional financial details of this investment depend on the companies’ final decisions.

The two sides also exchanged information on Thailand’s investment policy, plastic management in Thailand and Brazil, as well as plastic waste management at the global level. Additionally, both sides explored the possibility of collaboration between the Thai and Brazilian governments and private sectors towards transitioning into green economies and environmental sustainability at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in 2023.

The discussion was a follow-up meeting after Deputy Permanent Secretary led the Thai business delegation to Brazil in May 2023 under the “Latin Link” program. The Thai business delegation visited leading Brazilian companies, including Brakem S.A. (Brazil), and engaged in business matching and networking activities.
