On 29 May 2026, Mr. Pisanu Sobhon, Ambassador attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Wanalee Lohpechra, Deputy Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, delivered briefings on “Thailand’s Key Foreign Policy Priorities” and the “Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI).“ In attendance was a delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) of the United Republic of Tanzania, led by Major General Wilbert Augustine Ibuge, Commandant of the NDC, along with 25 faculty members and course participants.
The Ambassador and the Deputy Director-General gave an overview of how Thailand has maintained its strategic importance through engagement with the international community at all levels, while highlighting its focus on Africa in recognition of the increasing importance of Global South relations. Both sides also exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation between Thailand and Tanzania, especially through the TAI, in order to address emerging challenges confronting developing nations, such as food security, climate change, and transnational organised crime.
