On 12-13 May 2025, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and MFA Spokesperson, met with Japanese relevant authorities to exchange views, experiences and best practices on how to combat disinformation and misinformation and how to enhance strategic communication. The authorities included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication of Japan, Cabinet Office under Prime Minister’s Office of Japan, and Japan Fact-check Center.

Both sides shared information and experiences in addressing disinformation and misinformation, particularly on how it impacts foreign policy and international relations. They also discussed the challenges of combatting this phenomenon in the digital era and the current context of high geopolitical tensions.

The Department of Information’s visit to Japan is a continuation of the Programme on “Thailand-Japan Exchange of Knowledge and Experience on Countering Disinformation and Misinformation” that has been initiated by both sides since 2024, with the aim to further explore opportunities for collaboration and maintain the dynamism of relations in this area between the two countries.
