Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs meets with Director-General of the Department of Global Affairs, Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, on the occasion of his visit to Thailand

On 30 September 2026, Mrs. Hattaya Khusakul, Director General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, met with Mr. Roberto de Leon, Director General of the Department of Global Affairs, Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to attend the drafting negotiations of an international instrument on plastics under the UN.

The two sides exchanged views on approaches to advancing policies on climate change, disaster preparedness and response, environmental conservation, and financial management, as well as on Thailand's participation in various activities during the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81). They agreed that the two sides could discuss cooperation within multilateral frameworks and exchange good practices at the 7th Thailand-Mexico Political Consultation, to be hosted by Mexico, with a view to enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Mexican side expressed its readiness to sign two MOUs, which are (1) MOU on Cooperation in Risk Prevention and Disaster Risk Management between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection Ministry of the Government of Mexico City and (2) MOU between the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the United Mexican States and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand on cooperation in matters of ocean protection and conservation, and the restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity.
