On 7 July 2026, Ms. Rujikorn Saengchantr, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, and Professor Dr. Supasawad Chardchawarn, Rector of Thammasat University, co-presided over and delivered opening remarks at the seminar “APEC Perspectives in an International Context,” hosted by the Department of International Economic Affairs, the Thai APEC Study Centre (TASC) under the Thailand Institute of Area Studies (TIARA), Thammasat University, and the APEC Secretariat. The seminar was aimed at promoting a greater understanding and an exchange of perspectives on the role of APEC in addressing evolving economic and geopolitical challenges.
During the keynote session, Mr. Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat (APEC ED), delivered a presentation on the evolution of APEC and the role of regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific under the theme “Regional Cooperation in a Changing World: Towards an Open, Dynamic, Resilient and Peaceful Asia-Pacific Community.” He underscored that, despite growing challenges and uncertainties in the global economy, APEC continues to serve as a comprehensive platform for dialogue, policy coordination, and knowledge sharing, thereby fostering practical cooperation among member economies. Mr. Carlos Kuriyama, Director of the APEC Policy Support Unit (PSU) presented on the APEC Regional Trend Analysis, followed by a fireside chat with the APEC ED, discussing the future of APEC, the implications of artificial intelligence for economic development, the evolving global trading system, and the role of younger generations in advancing regional cooperation.
The seminar reflected the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to raising public awareness of APEC cooperation and providing a platform for various Thai stakeholders to exchange views with experts from the APEC Secretariat. It also served to strengthen networks among the public sector, academia, and Thai student representatives in support of Thailand’s role in APEC and other international cooperation frameworks. The event was attended by more than 170 participants from government agencies, academic institutions, the private sector, and others.
