On 12 November 2025, Ms. Rujikorn Saengchantr, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, together with Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Former Minister of Commerce and Energy, and H.E. Mr. Yong Min Park, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, jointly delivered opening remarks at the seminar “Sharing Pathways: Korea’s OECD Membership and Thailand’s Application” at the Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit. The seminar, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand, brought together representatives from relevant government agencies, the private sector, and academic institutions involved in Thailand’s accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as members of the media, totaling approximately 50 participants.
The Director-General expressed congratulations on the Republic of Korea’s success in hosting the APEC meetings in 2025 and expressed appreciation for its continued support of Thailand’s accession to the OECD. She also emphasized the importance of cooperation on shared areas of interest, such as digital and AI transitions, demographic changes, and innovation-driven industrial and investment policies.
This seminar was organized to share the experience of the Republic of Korea in its OECD accession process in 1993, which helped the country transition to a developed economy. It also served as a forum to exchange best practices, concepts for structural reform, and innovation-driven growth, as well as to explore opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation in emerging industries such as electric vehicles and digital content. In addition, it reflected the commitment of the Republic of Korea to supporting Thailand in strengthening its capacities as it works toward OECD membership. Notably, the Republic of Korea will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of its OECD membership in 2026.
