On 28 January 2026, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, had a meeting with Mr. Javier Alfredo De Cicco, Chargé d’Affaires of the Argentine Republic to Thailand.

Both sides exchanged views on the process of selecting and appointing the new Secretary-General of the United Nations. The Chargé d'affaires introduced Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as the candidate nominated by the Argentine government for the term 2027 - 2031. The Director-General conveyed Thailand’s support for a transparent and merit-based process for the selection and appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

They also discussed friendly cooperation on reciprocal support arrangements with regard to Thailand and Argentina’s respective candidatures in international organizations.
