On 30 June 2026, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, had discussions with Mr. Shombi Sharp, Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnerships and Coordination of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), to discuss Thailand - ESCAP cooperation.
The ESCAP Deputy Executive Secretary thanked Thailand for its continued support as the host country of ESCAP and commended Thailand’s leading role in the United Nations, ASEAN, South - South and Triangular Cooperation, particularly in poverty alleviation, innovation, and sustainable development. The Director-General reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation with ESCAP, particularly in the lead-up to ESCAP’s 80th anniversary in 2027, including through the establishment of the ESCAP Gallery and the organization of activities leading to the 100th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. These initiatives will build on the successful collaboration in organizing the event commemorating the 80th anniversary of Thailand’s membership in the United Nations on 22 June 2026.
ESCAP is the largest of the United Nations regional commissions, comprising 53 member States and 9 associate members. Established on 28 March 1947 in Shanghai, it relocated its headquarters to Bangkok in 1949. ESCAP promotes economic and social cooperation across Asia and the Pacific and strengthens the capacity of its members to achieve sustainable development.
