On 25 May 2026, Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mrs. Lucy Njeri Kiruthu, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to Thailand, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duty.

Both sides discussed ways to promote bilateral relations in light of the Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI) and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Kenya in 2027. The Director-General reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Kenya in all dimensions, particularly in trade and investment, exchanges of development expertise in agriculture and food security, as well as cooperation on multilateral issues, including partnership against online scams. Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties through exchanges of high-level visits and finalisation of pending agreements. They also discussed the possibility of having a bilateral consultation mechanism at the senior officials level.
