On July 31 2026, Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East and African Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Hassan Abdel Salam Omer, Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan to Thailand with residence in Kuala Lumpur, to discuss ways for Thailand and Sudan to enhance bilateral relations and mutual cooperation.

The Director-General underscored the importance that Thailand attaches to the Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI), aiming to advance cooperation in four key areas: political, economic, development cooperation and global strategic cooperation. Sudan is one of Thailand’s priority countries under the TAI framework. The Director-General was briefed on the current situation in Sudan and noted the progress in the country’s national recovery efforts, while reaffirming Thailand’s readiness to support Sudan’s recovery and development in areas of mutual interest such as development cooperation, agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing
and energy.

The two sides also discussed promoting people-to-people exchanges. In this regard, the 'Colours of Africa 2026' event, to be organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September, will serve as a platform for enhancing mutual understanding between Thailand and African countries.
