On 31 August 2026, Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, discussed with H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand, to express Thailand’s condolences over the devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal and to explore disaster relief cooperation.

The Ambassador of Nepal briefed the Director-General on the overall situation, noting that the disaster was among the most severe and unprecedented in Nepal’s history, a catastrophic combination of earthquakes, floods, and tsunami-like effect. Relief efforts in the affected areas remained challenging due to highly limited access. More than 900 people had been reported dead, and over 4,000 missing, with the figures expected to rise.

The Director-General expressed Thailand’s deepest condolences over the tragic situation and reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to provide urgent assistance in areas where Thailand has expertise. Thailand also stands ready to support Nepal’s post-disaster recovery efforts and to work together to strengthen disaster preparedness and prevent the impact of future disasters.
