On 11 April 2023, Mr. Chatchai Viriyavejakul, Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs met with Mrs. Qian Hongjie, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both sides exchanged views on the preparations for the 2nd Thailand - Guangdong High-Level Cooperation Conference (HLCC) to be hosted by Thailand later this year.
 
Thailand and Guangdong established a biennial working group meeting as a mechanism to promote efficient and pragmatic cooperation in 2010. The working group was later elevated to the HLCC in 2019, co-chaired by the Minister of Industry of Thailand and the Governor of Guangdong. The first HLCC was convened online in August 2021.
