On 29 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had discussions with Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament and Chairperson of Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs of India.
 
Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade and investment cooperation in promising sectors, including digital economy, tourism and services, food processing, human resource development, and connectivity between India with Southeast Asia by land and sea with emphasis on the India - Myanmar - Thailand Trilateral Highway Project and opportunities to connect Thailand’s Land Bridge project with ports in Southern India. They explored ways to strengthen regional cooperation, including ASEAN - India partnership and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). They also exchanged views on key regional issues, including the situations in Myanmar and the Middle East.
 
Dr. Shashi Tharoor is one of India’ s prominent political figures and a senior diplomat, with nearly three decades of experience at the United Nations. He served as the UN’s Under-Secretary-General from 2002 - 2007, and has also held office as India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Human Resource Development.
