On 8 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, to advance science, research and innovation (SRI) diplomacy, which constitutes a key component of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ economic diplomacy policy and aligns with the Government’s foreign policy.
Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak emphasized that SRI constitute a key component of foreign affairs and economic diplomacy aimed at promoting confidence in Thailand, strengthening the country’s capabilities, and fostering collaboration with all partners. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched SRI diplomacy strategy to serve as a framework for systematic and concrete cooperation, as well as the establishment of international networks in science, research, and innovation through nearly 100 Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates-General worldwide. Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak also invited the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to consider joining the Letter of Intent (LOI) to drive SRI diplomacy in collaboration with relevant agencies as part of Team Thailand.
Both sides exchanged views on key areas of cooperation, including medical and wellness, semiconductors and AI, and addressing PM2.5 pollution. They have established a coordination channel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will invite Deputy Prime Minister Yodchanan to hold online discussions with Thai Ambassadors in target countries to advance science diplomacy in priority areas.
