On 7 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, held a meeting with the Director-General of Malaysia’s National Security Council in Kuala Lumpur.

Both sides agreed to advance cooperation following the earlier discussion between the Prime Ministers of the two countries. Particular emphasis will be placed on the development of the Thai-Malaysian border areas in order to improve the livelihoods and well-being of local communities, as well as to strengthen border security. This includes closer intelligence sharing and coordination on the construction of security fences along the border to prevent transnational crime and other illegal activities.

Both sides also discussed cooperation relating to the peace dialogue process for Thailand’s southern border provinces that Malaysia serves as its facilitator.
