On 10 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, briefed the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organisations in Thailand on the official visit to Thailand by H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on 6 - 7 August 2026.
The Deputy Prime Minister briefed that the visit provided an important opportunity to advance cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar on key issues, including border security, combating transnational crimes, addressing transboundary environmental concerns, economic cooperation, energy security, and development cooperation. It was also an opportunity for a frank discussion on increasing engagement between Myanmar and ASEAN in line with Thailand’s calibrated re-engagement approach. The Myanmar side expressed appreciation for Thailand’s constructive role in building bridges between Myanmar and ASEAN, and for Thailand’s support for the peace process in Myanmar.
