Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs delivers a keynote address on the topic “Thailand and the New World Order” at Thammasat University (Tha Prachan)

On 5 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a keynote address on the topic “Thailand and the New World Order” at the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University (Tha Prachan). The audience comprised approximately 150 faculty members, academics, and students.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Thailand’s foreign policy in a rapidly changing global context, amidst intensifying geopolitical, geoeconomic, and geotechnological competition among major powers. He emphasized that Thailand’s foreign policy must encompass all dimensions and directions and look beyond Thailand’s immediate interests. The Deputy Prime Minister further expressed confidence that a sound foreign policy, together with policy coherence and coordinated efforts among relevant agencies, would enable Thailand to navigate these challenges. He also emphasized the importance of proactive diplomacy, with a focus on advancing economic diplomacy, especially through Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and the opening of new markets in various regions, including Africa through the Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI).

The Deputy Prime Minister exchanged views with participants and engaged in a Q&A session, covering a range of issues, such as Thailand’s foreign policy in managing relations with major powers, Thailand’s position regarding the situation in Myanmar, and Thailand’s role on the international stage amidst a changing global context.
