Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs joins the Prime Minister in meeting with the Prime Minister of Australia

On 19 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, in meeting with H.E. the Honourable Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, during the official visit to the Commonwealth of Australia in Canberra.
The Deputy Prime Minister participated in a leaders discussion, during which the two Prime Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across all dimensions, including high-level exchanges, combating transnational crime, and promoting bilateral trade and investment, as well as expanding their roles and cooperation within ASEAN and the Mekong subregion, based on the security of the Indo-Pacific region.
The Deputy Prime Minister then participated in the plenary meeting, attended by the two Prime Ministers and key Ministers from the Thai and Australian sides. They welcomed the close and longstanding relationship between Thailand and Australia, which will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Both sides also discussed ways to advance cooperation in the areas of the economy; trade and investment; culture and people-to-people ties; energy; science, research and innovation; and security and defence, including combating transnational crime. They also exchanged views on key regional developments of mutual interest, including the situation in Myanmar and the Thailand - Cambodia situation.
Following the meetings, the Deputy Prime Minister witnessed the signing of joint statements between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Commonwealth of Australia on transnational crime and on deepening economic engagement. He then attended the joint press conference of the two Prime Ministers, which reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across all dimensions, including advancing the Thailand - Australia Strategic Partnership towards tangible outcomes. In addition, the two Prime Ministers also met with representatives of the Thai business sector accompanying the delegation to discuss trade and investment opportunities in Australia.
