On 7 September 2023, Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs met with the United States Congressional delegation, led by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-New York), Chair of the House Republican Conference, during the visit to Thailand between 6 – 8 September 2023. Joining the U.S. Congressional delegation were (1) Congressman Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina) (2) Congressman David Valadao (R-California) (3) Congressman Jake LaTurner (R-Kansas) (4) Congressman Brad Finstad (R-Minnesota) (5) Congresswoman Michelle Fishbach (R-Minnesota) (6) Congresswomen Laurel Lee (R-Florida) and (7) Congressman Rudy Yakym (R-Indiana). The visit reflected the importance of the Thailand-U.S. alliance and strategic partnership based on shared values and mutual benefits.
During the discussion, both sides underscored the commitment to the long-standing alliance and the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which mark the 190th anniversary this year. They welcomed close cooperation between Thailand - the U.S. in multi-faceted areas, especially defense and anti-human trafficking, as well as discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation on trade and investment. Both sides also exchanged views on important developments in the region and cooperation, including the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), which Thailand will host the upcoming negotiation round in Bangkok between 10 – 16 September 2023.
On this occasion, the Deputy Permanent Secretary also invited the Congressional delegation to join the U.S. - Thai Alliance Caucus, recently established in the U.S. Congress to serve as a platform to support further enhancing Thailand-U.S. cooperation.
