On 12 May 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a bilateral meeting with The Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the U.S., during the visit to attend the ASEAN-United States Special Summit during 12 – 13 May 2022 in Washington D.C.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance Thailand – U.S. strategic partnership in all dimensions, both at the bilateral and regional levels, ranging from cooperation on public health, COVID-19 response and recovery, anti-human trafficking efforts, to promoting economic partnership, particularly cooperation on economic revitalization, strong and resilient supply chain and digital economy. The U.S. also commended Thailand’s efforts and commitment to promoting the Electronic Vehicles industry and clean energy, which are in line with the U.S. climate agenda. In this connection, both sides agreed to work closely to ensure a seamless transition between Thailand’s and the U.S.’ APEC Host Years in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

On this occasion, both sides exchanged views on important regional developments, including the significant roles of ASEAN, promoting cooperation in the Mekong Sub-region, as well as the situation in Myanmar and humanitarian assistance for the people of Myanmar.
