On 9 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a seminar titled “Thailand’s Foreign Policy in a Multipolar World and Asia in Transition: Building Cooperation in Times of Uncertainty” at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University, Salaya, during which he delivered a keynote address on the topic “Thailand’s Foreign Policy in a Multipolar World.” In attendance were faculty members, academics, the diplomatic corps based in Thailand, as well as students from various academic institutions, totaling 230 participants.
The Foreign Minister elaborated on the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs amidst a volatile and fragmented global geopolitical landscape, particularly the intensifying competition among major powers. He underscored the importance of advancing a proactive foreign policy agenda in a multi-dimensional and multi-directional manner to protect and promote national interests, while expanding toward a more active role at the regional and international levels and striking a balance between addressing immediate challenges and setting clear long-term strategic goals.
The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to resolving the border situation through a multi-tiered approach. Key measures include enhancing domestic inter-agency synergy to ensure a unified and credible position, maintaining proactive engagement with the international community to clarify Thailand’s stances, which are firmly anchored in international law and principles, as well as engaging with ASEAN and major powers to foster an environment conducive for peaceful resolution.
