On 3 June 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the opening ceremony of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) 2025, held under the theme “Leading the way toward resilient, inclusive, and sustainable prosperity through rules-based trade, investment and innovation” at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris, France, with Costa Rica serving as the chair. The Foreign Minister also witnessed the handover of the co-chairmanship of the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) from Australia and Vietnam to Canada and the Philippines.

This marks the first time Thailand is participating as an OECD Accession Country, with the Minister scheduled to hold discussions with ministers and high-level representatives from over 55 countries and international organizations. Key policy topics include the economic situation in OECD countries, international trade policy, inclusive and sustainable development, OECD membership expansion, digital economy development, and artificial intelligence (AI) governance.

In addition, the Foreign Minister also advocated for strengthened cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and presented Thailand’s position on promoting inclusive growth during the discussion on “Promoting inclusive economic growth to advance members’ sustainable development” at the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting held in Paris. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to cooperating with the OECD in the accession process towards becoming a full member. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Thai MSMEs’ participation in regional and global value chains, improving access to financing for green transition investments, and enhancing international cooperation on these issues—such as collaborating with the European Union on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The Foreign Minister reiterated Thailand’s aspiration to become a full member of the OECD by 2030, with a focus on fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Thailand will prioritize the promotion of high-quality and sustainable investment, as well as the fight against corruption. To this end, Thailand will initiate the process of becoming a party to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention.
