On 6 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, advanced a “New Frontier of Thai Diplomacy” at The Standard Economic Forum 2025 held at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon in Bangkok, a session moderated by Ms. Nattha Komolvadhin, News Director of The Standard.
The Foreign Minister committed to making his four-month tenure meaningful by addressing immediate challenges, particularly the Thailand - Cambodia situation, while laying a long-term foundation for Thai diplomacy in an increasingly complex and shifting global context. He will advance foreign policy that is strategic and has clear direction in order to strengthen Thailand’s diplomatic weight, restore the country’s visibility on the global radar screen and create opportunities for the country and the people, especially in the economic dimension. He also highlighted the importance of pursuing diplomacy that extends beyond Thailand’s immediate interests, noting the country will take a lead role in promoting peace and stability at regional and global levels, as well as engage on issues of interest to the international community, such as climate-related disaster management, pandemics, and combatting cybercrime. In this regard, Thailand has expressed its intention to host an international conference on combatting cybercrime within 2025.
The Foreign Minister also reiterated that Thai foreign policy must be grounded in the country’s national interests, especially in the current geopolitical landscape, where competition among major powers in the region has been intensifying. He emphasized that modern Thai diplomacy must start at home, taking into greater account public sentiment and opinion, ensuring transparency, as well as clearly communicating with the public on how foreign policy serves the people’s interests.
On the same day, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also participated in a panel discussion on the topic “Redefining Thailand’s Role in the New World Order,” together with Professor Emeritus Dr. Surachart Bamrungsuk, faculty member of the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, and scholar in security and political affairs, and Associate Professor Dr. Aksornsri Panichsan, faculty member of the Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University. The Director-General underscored Thailand’s capacity to act proactively and assume a lead role in critical issues on the world stage.
